The Priority of the Word of God
Have you ever wondered why some portions of scriptures are in the Bible? What is their significance? Why should I study and know the Bible anyway? Why is the old testament necessary?

From 2 Timothy 3:16, we see that all scripture is God breathed. This means that He is the Source of it and if we claim to obey Him then what He has said is also very important. If we claim to obey and study “some” portions of Scripture while neglecting the rest, we will only know a one-sided God. We will not understand Him nor His ways and methods. We must recognize, examine, study and properly obey every scripture.
God has esteemed His word above His Name. It is the foundation of everything in the universe. I believe whatever is important and esteemed by God is worth our time and attention. As followers of Christ, it is expected that we know the Word and apply it appropriately. God can never be wrong and so is His Word, the Word is there for our advantage. See the benefits of abiding in the Word, we are corrected, instructed, trained and restored. How wonderful! We have a guide, a compass that can never be wrong.
In God there is no room for relativism, there are no “grey” spots in what He has said. This calls for right understanding and acceptance of what the Bible says is as it is. How do we define what is sin and what is not sin? What is God’s will for your life? The solution to our struggles in the daily Christian walk is not fasting and more prayer but the knowledge and revelation that come engaging God.
The truth that as Christ’s disciples we are at war has not dawned on many believers. Most of us pursue a comfortable life waiting for the ultimate reward which is Heaven but the reality is that right now, we are at war! The Word is our weapon to take down any and every stronghold of the enemy. It is sad that some Christians are “tasting” the Word instead of feasting on the Word. This little intake of Scriptures makes us inadequate when it comes to combat since we find ourselves without the right intensity and temperature to meet the fierce constant attacks of the enemy. Without exception we must know the Word to avoid deceptions just like it happened to Eve back in the garden. She got tricked and confused because the enemy knew and was able to use what he knew to confuse Eve. Jesus on the other hand defeated the Devil using the Word when He was tempted.
The Word is the constitution of the Kingdom that governs the entire universe. It will be foolish not to take seriously that which ought to govern your entire life. God’s Word is the standard, His yardstick which He uses to measure all things. We do well to give it the utmost attention it deserves.
