Taking Stock of Your Life
The end of the year is usually a good time to reflect and do some self examination, a forgotten spiritual discipline in today’s busy world. This is not to condemn or judge yourself harshly but to test and refocus your life on the sure path.
Scripture tells us to
Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.
2Co 13:5 NKJV
But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
Ga 6:4 NKJV
I encourage you to deliberately make time alone in this season to realign your walk with the LORD.
In my readings this year, I came across these set of questions that John and Charles Wesley who were greatly used of GOD in 18th Century England to disciple nations through their network of small discipleship groups called HOLY CLUBS. I’ve found these questions helpful and I trust you will too 👇🏾
ACCOUNTABILITY QUESTIONS FROM THE WESLEYAN MOVEMENT
❓Am I consciously or unconsciously creating the impression that I am better than I really am? In other words, am I a hypocrite?
❓Am I honest in all my acts and words, or do I exaggerate?
❓Do I confidentially pass on to others what has been said to me in confidence?
❓Can I be trusted?
❓Am I a slave to dress, friends, work, or habits?
❓Am I self-conscious, self-pitying, or self-justifying?
❓Did the Bible live in me today?
❓Do I give the Bible time to speak to me every day?
❓Am I enjoying prayer?
❓When did I last speak to someone else of my faith?
❓Do I pray about the money I spend?
❓Do I get to bed on time and get up on time?
❓Do I disobey God in anything?
❓Do I insist upon doing something about which my conscience is uneasy?
❓Am I defeated in any part of my life?
❓Am I jealous, impure, critical, irritable, touchy, or distrustful?
❓How do I spend my spare time?
❓Am I proud?
❓Do I thank God that I am not as other people, especially as the Pharisees who despised the publican?
❓Is there anyone whom I fear, dislike, disown, criticize, hold resentment toward, or disregard? If so, what am I doing about it?
❓Do I grumble or complain constantly?
❓Is Christ real to me?
ADDED:
❓ Have I been truthful about my answers?
Again, this is not introspective analysis for the purpose of self criticism but healthy self examination for spiritual realignment. May we walk worthy of the Lord in the New Year.
Have a blessed and fruitful 2023 ahead!!
Your brother,
Mark KOLO
In deed along the way I find that I loose focus and direction of purpose. Sincerely responding to the self examination questions, I have a lot to work on this year.
Thought provoking… comprehensive for re-evaluation and realignment of priorities. Thank you Sir
